  • Q I'm pregnant, what precautions should I take when I exercise?
  • A Pregnancy is an entirely natural condition and providing that you follow sensible guidelines, it should not prevent you from exercising and keeping fit. Generally avoid both high impact activities and high intensity workouts throughout your pregnancy and also avoid exercising on your back after the fourth month as this can cause dizziness. As your baby grows, you will need more support during exercise and also longer recoveries and you need to make sure that you avoid overheating, always keeping well hydrated. Consult your midwife who will be able to advise you on any specific precautions that you need to take but overall, the fitter you are, the easier your pregnancy and the birth will be.
