  • Q I am suffering from an ingrowing toenail. What is the best treatment for this?
  • A An ingrowing toenail is extremely painful and usually affects the big toe, with the nail growing into the side of the flesh. Treatment will involve visiting a chiropodist, who will trim back the nail at the side, thereby resolving the problem. To prevent further problems, check out your running shoes to ensure that they are not too tight and there is sufficient room between the toes and the end of the shoe. It is also worth checking your non-running shoes, as these could alternatively be the cause of the ingrowing nail if they are too tight. Also, make sure you regularly trim your toenails, and make sure you cut straight across the nails rather than in a curve, so that they don't grow inwards.
