  • A To run 26.2 miles, you need a lot of energy - in fact, you need a minimum of 2,600 calories. So you are right to be thinking about how to fuel your race. However, if you have trained correctly, your body will have adapted to the demands of supplying your muscles with fuel for endurance running - and if you combine this with reduced training volumes in the final week and a focus on eating plenty of complex carbohydrate, your fuel tanks should be full. Consuming food while running is not easy (either to eat or stomach!), so it's unwise to carry food items en route. Instead, look to take advantage of the energy drink stations that are sited every five miles and use them to top up your fuel stores, which will help you avoid running out of energy - particularly in the final few miles.
