  • Q I've never run in a big field before. Are there any precautions I should take?
  • A Running in a mass-participation race is extremely exciting, but if you've not run in company before then you need to be careful. Firstly, make sure that you line up in the starting pens in a position relative to your expected finishing time. You can do this by checking the estimated finishing time placards alongside the starting area. If you line up correctly then you won't be in danger of being overwhelmed by the flow of runners running at a different pace to yours. Secondly, to avoid tripping up or collisions, you need to be very aware of both your position and the position of other runners at all times. This is particularly important at drinks stations, where runners can suddenly change direction and cause an accident. Otherwise, though, there are no special precautions to take and you should thoroughly enjoy the experience of running in a big field.
