  • Q When I start my run I am often cold, but after a mile or so I get overheated. What am I doing wrong?
  • A Running is a very dynamic activity and generates a lot of heat, even on cold days. So you need to adopt the 'layering principle' with clothing, whereby you wear two or more layers when you start, which can be removed as you warm up. This is much better than wearing a single, thick garment such as a sweatshirt, which doesn't permit de-layering. The ideal method is to warm up with perhaps a running jacket on, which you can remove for your main session and then put back on for your lower-intensity cool-down.
