  • Q Despite running a consistent mileage with plenty of quality sessions, I am failing to improve. What am I doing wrong?
  • A You are probably suffering from overtraining syndrome, whereby you are not allowing your body sufficient time to recover from hard sessions or races. Without easy sessions or rest, your body cannot adapt to training loads - and so either your performance will suffer or you will become ill or injured. The solution is to reduce the volume and intensity of your training for several weeks, omitting races and hard sessions until you feel refreshed and ready to step up again. Ensure when you begin adding faster sessions into your programme that you factor rest into your schedule so that the condition doesn't return.
