  • A Whether it’s in blistering heat or the bitter cold, your kit will be key to your survival in your obstacle event challenge. Depending on where you choose to undertake your event will influence your choice of kit, however there are some basic pieces that every first timer shouldn’t go without. Layers are important when it comes to what you wear for your event, but don’t make the rookie mistake of thinking more layers means you’ll be warmer for the challenge. True you’ll be toasty warm until you hit the first ice cold muddy pool, but then more layers means more drying time, and more weight to carry. Avoid cotton materials and go for lightweight synthetic clothing - try a base layer, t shirt and shorts or compression leggings. Hopefully you’ll be working hard enough to keep yourself warm. A sock with a blend of Merino wool, nylon and spandex should give you the optimum mix of warmth, comfort and stability. Gloves can also be useful, and provide some protection, but just make sure they are tight fitting with rubber traction grips, otherwise they can be more of a hinderance than a help.
