  • Q I have always suffered from asthma but would love to walk more or even jog. Is this possible?
  • A Asthma is a chronic condition that causes a narrowing of the airways, making it increasingly difficult to breathe - which can be extremely frightening. However, aerobic exercise is very effective in helping people with asthma because it improves the entire cardiovascular system and reduces the need for asthma medication. Walking and running should eventually be possible, but make sure that you always have your inhaler with you and that you carry out a long warm-up of approximately 15 minutes every time you exercise. Also, avoid dusty, polluted environments when you work out, such as foggy weather or dusty gymnasiums - which could make breathing more difficult.
