  • Q How fast should I aim to ride?
  • A One of the best ways of measuring your performance level is through cadence, which is measured in RPM (revolutions per minute) as it’s essentially the amount of times one foot makes a full pedal stroke each minute. An amateur cyclist will probably ride around 60-70 rpm, however it’s much more economical to ride somewhere between 85 and 100 rpm. Riding a big gear can end up sapping your legs, meaning that you’ve got very little left when you get off the bike and have to start your run. Spinning your legs is more effective as it’s utilising your cardiovascular system that much more, and once you’re used to maintaining that level of cadence, it will be a much more effective way to get around the triathlon.
