  • Q How do I pace the bike section of a triathlon?
  • A The majority of events will be non-drafting time trials so there’s no possibility of tucking in behind for an easy ride, and for this reason you have to think about pacing yourself properly. The best way to ride a time trial is with an even pace so that you’re just as strong in the second half as you are in the first. This means no sprinting off in the first five minutes of the ride and filling your legs with lactic acid. The first half should be ridden under control and relatively comfortably in order for you to finish strong. If you ride like this you may not pass many people in the first half of the race but you’ll definitely be flying past people in the second half.
