  • Q What bike should I buy for a triathlon?
  • A You could use a standard road bike in triathlon, but much depends on your level of ambition. A time trial bike will be not nearly as comfortable as your road bike, but with a good position you’re likely to be around 4kph faster compared to your road bike. If you’re looking to just get around the course and complete your triathlon, then a road bike will serve you very well. However if you want to be competitive at the sharp end of the races then a time trial bike is your best option. The only time where a road bike might be a better option would be on a course that is particularly hilly and requires lots of climbing. Ultimately, there’s so much choice out there, but if you are just starting out, you may want to consider taking a look at second hand bikes, so you can get a tip-top bike perfect for your needs at a fraction of the price.
