  • Q Do I really have to wear the tight fitting gear typically worn by most road cyclists?
  • A Most cyclists will start of with the intention of staying well clear of lycra. Much depends on the length and type of challenge. If you are training for a long endurance cycling event then you’ll be spending many hours in the saddle so you want to be comfortable. Lycra gear typically worn by a road cyclist has its advantages, most notably it won’t catch on your chain, plus there’s very little air resistance and it’s very quick at drying. Of course you can wear what you want, and there are some brands that make high performance cycle gear that would be ok to wear in everyday settings away from the bike. Ultimately you should put comfort over fashion and not worry about what anyone else thinks.
