  • Q I am a male runner and continually suffer from sore nipples during races and training runs. Is there any solution to this problem?
  • A You are suffering from runner's nipple, which is caused by repeated chafing against your vest or other clothing while you run. Cold, windy or damp conditions can also exacerbate the problem and make it extremely painful. However, there is a quick and simple remedy - simply spread a layer of Vaseline over each nipple before you go on your run. This will create a barrier between your nipples and your vest, and will therefore minimise the irritation from your clothes chafing. An alternative is to fix to strips of waterproof plaster over your nipples before your run. Don't worry about the pain of taking them off at the end of your run, as you will find that the plasters can be easily removed once you have sweated!
